FAQ
Q: How often should my HVAC unit be serviced?
A: We recommend preventative maintenance for your HVAC system to be done twice a year. The spring preventative maintenance prepares your A/C for the warmer weather and then a fall tune-up readies your furnace for the cooler temperatures. These multi-point tune-ups provided by our experts allow an opportunity to inspect, tighten electrical connections, measure current & voltage, inspect drains, ensure proper system cycles, clean air coils; check refrigerant levels, clean and adjust the blower compartment. Our multi-point inspections allow early detection of broken or malfunctioning parts.
Regular maintenance of your heating and cooling equipment helps the equipment run as efficiently as possible and also lengthens the life of your system. Even the manufacturers of heating and cooling equipment recommend that annual maintenance and cleaning extend the life of your system. We believe that regular maintenance does exactly that.
Q: What type of filter should I be using?
A: We recommend a “Mid–Grade Pleated Filter.” These filters are rated between MERV 5 and 8. They trap a majority of airborne particles. The surface is a V-shaped chevron pattern.
Q: How often should my AC filters be changed?
A: There are many factors that affect the frequency of filter changes from the type of filter; usage, weather, and allergens to name a few. When using a mid-grade pleated filter, we recommend changing AC filters every 90 days or following the filter manufacture recommendation.
Q: What temperature should I set my thermostat?
A: There is no industry standard for temperature setting. A comfortable temperature is up to the individual. We recommend setting the temperature for whatever is comfortable.
Q: How often should I service my HVAC system in Southern Utah?
A: Because of the long cooling season and dusty desert environment, it’s best to service your system twice a year—once in the spring to prepare for summer and again in the fall before cooler nights set in.
Q: How long do HVAC systems last in Southern Utah?
A: Most systems last 10–15 years, but the extreme summer heat often causes equipment to work harder. With regular maintenance, you can extend its lifespan.
Q: What size HVAC system do I need for a Southern Utah home?
A: The right size depends on square footage, insulation quality, and sun exposure. Homes with large windows or west-facing rooms often need extra cooling capacity.
Q: How important is it to change air filters?
A: Very important. Dust, desert sand, and pollen can clog filters quickly. Replace them every 1–2 months during heavy AC use.
Q: Do I really need heating in Southern Utah?
A: Yes. While daytime winter temps are mild, nights often drop into the 30s and 40s. A furnace, heat pump, or even a smaller heating system is essential for comfort.
Q: Why is my heater blowing cool air?
A: It may be a simple fix like a dirty filter or thermostat issue, or it could be a blower or ignition problem.
Q: Which is better here—a furnace or a heat pump?
A: Heat pumps are popular in Southern Utah since they provide both cooling and mild heating efficiently. Gas furnaces are common and useful in homes that want extra heating power on colder nights.
